Flannel Reindeer Tutorial

 2020 Update - Strange old year.  Hope everyone is getting through all of this Covid madness.  It really has been a weird year.  This reindeer tutorial is still as popular as ever and it is lovely to see my tutorial still being read and used.

Well here you go - at last I've managed to sit down and take some pics and get a tutorial together for making flannel reindeers!!

It's quick and easy to make the basic shape.

First of all you take a flannel or washcloth and position it flat in front of you so that you have a corner point in front of you to give a diamond shape.

Then you position your bar of soap in the middle of the cloth.



Next take the corner closest to you and the back corner and bring them together.

Now roll the cloth starting from the corners held in your hand down towards the bar of soap.  This needs to be done quite tightly.  Photo is view looking down onto the cloth.

 

You then take each of the side corners and bring them to the middle to form the reindeer ears.

Again, make sure this is done tighly.  You then get a rubber band and pull it down over the ears to secure in place.  Photo shows front view looking down.

This is the back view.

You are now ready to add your pipe cleaner antlers which you thread up under the rubber band and twist them to position and shape.  I fold one pipe cleaner in half and bend it to the shape I want and then cut another pipe cleaner into two pieces and bend each piece around the larger pipe cleaner to forms the branch shape of the antlers.

I usually attach a few tiny bells around the ends of the pipe cleaners.

You can then decorate by tying a ribbon or a piece of tinsel around the rubber band, glue on some googly eyes and a pom pom nose and then add a small bell on the bow of the ribbon and you are done!

You can do an Easter Bunny in the same way but obviously omitting the antlers!
