Scarves, Holidays and More!!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.  We actually had some sun today in Bristol although it was very windy.  I started clearing out some of the huge amount of rubbish that we have in our garage. If we do it abit at a time it won't seem so tedious!!!  We had an old style electric sewing machine which I managed to re-home on Freecycle so that was good.  It's always nice to try and find something that still has some life left in it a new home rather than taking it to the tip!!

I wanted to share with you a couple of new scarves that I have bought recently.  I love scarves and have a large collection of them in all different colours, textures and sizes!  The first one I want to show you was purchased from Tesco, they just had the one and I spotted it by chance!!  It's a lovely turquoise colour with a vintage style rose tapestry print on it.  It goes with lots of outfits as there are many colours it besides the turquoise - red, pink, green and yellow.

The other scarf I bought from Sainsbury, it was £8 and I didn't really want to spend that on a scarf that day!!  Anyway, the next day I saw an advert on tv saying that there was 25% off at Sainsbury so off I trotted to get the scarf for £6!!!  It's a huge scarf, big enough to wear as a sarong if I wanted to!!  It is a lovely maroon/red and has the most adorable swallows/bluebirds on it.

The photos don't show the colours to their best as I've taken the photos at night!!  I'm sure they give you a general idea though!!  For any followers not in the UK these were both bought in supermarkets in the clothing department!

I'm off on holiday in 2 weeks to Malaysia.  We fly to Kuala Lumpur and spend a night there and then fly to Penang the next day for 8 nights and then back to Kuala Lumpur for 4 nights.  I've been to KL 3 times before, it's a great city with lots to do and see and fantastic shopping malls!!  I'm hoping to find some craft/haberdashery shops there, I believe there are alot in Chinatown so I will be having a good look!!

I've been making lots of fabric flowers and have some lovely cotton prints to use.

 I am making them into brooches and hair clips at the moment!!

Cute Little Native Indian Felt Girl

I've been busy making this super cute Native Indian Girl out of felt. She is made using a pattern from Ginger Melon who does the most fantastic designs - I want them all!!!! I've made her completely by hand and she was quite fiddley due to her size - she is just 12cms tall and fits into the palm of my hand!!!

I am really pleased with the finished result and will be making a few more of these!!!

Charity Shop Bargain Buy!!

Don't you just love it when something in a charity shop catches your eye and immediately you know what you will use it for!!!!!  Well when I saw this retro 70's cassette holder I had that exact feeling!!

The stamp pad to the side of it should give you a hint!!!  Yep my ink pads fit perfectly into the slots so it makes a fantastic funky ink pad holder!!!!

It even has additional storage to the side

I paid £1 for it and it is really sturdy so a complete bargains!!

Letraset Neon Markers

Today in the post I had a pack of the new Neon Markers from Letraset to test out for them.

The pens come in 6 colours, Spark Red, Electric Pink, Radiant Orange, Luminous Yellow, Glowing Green and Volt Blue.  They are twin tipped, pigmented and lightfast.  As they are water based you can blend them to make the shades lighter and more subtle if you want to.

I have used a watercolour brush with them today and the results were lovely.  The Volt Blue would be great for colouring sky.

Hello Again and a Flannel Reindeer Tutorial!!

I've not blogged for a long time - seem to spend alot of time on Facebook and never find the time to blog!

Anyway - today, I have finally sat and done a photo tutorial for Flannel Reindeers as I have had lots of comments and views on my post that I did on these a year or two back.  It went onto Pinterest and appeared in a few US online publications!!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to anyone that's a mum, sadly, I'm not a mum but hey ho!

Anyway - I've made a couple of cards this week - the first was of course for my mum for Mother's Day.  I used myTim Holtz Caged Bird die that I had for Christmas for this one as it is a favourite of mine. I also used a Sizzix flourish die I had bought a while back but not used before.  I think a card always looks nicer with a flourish!!!  I used alot of stickles on the card to make it sparkley and some paper flowers.  The lettering was done using Tim Holtz Vintage Market Alphabet die.  Here it is

The second card that I made was for my friend Shayne's birthday.  He was 40 yesterday!!!  As I couldn't go to the party I thought I'd make him a card instead.  He has 3 Chocolate Point Siamese cats so last year when I saw a Siamese cat stamp set on offer at Joanne Sheen I bought it with his birthday in mind!  It's tough doing cards for guys at the best of times and I didn't want to make it too fussy so this is what I came up with

Have to say the cat was really difficult to colour and I could probably do with practising blending those colours abit more!  Anyway I think it came out ok and he was pleased with it.  He didn't realise I had made it until I told him and he went to fetch it for another closer look!!

A friend of mine has always dabbled with music and has always had a soft spot for 80's type music.  He has made various tracks and cd's over the years and passed them around to friends but this time he has done it properly and is selling the album and individual tracks over on itunes.  He made a fab video whilst in Melbourne.  Here is the song - have a listen - WARNING contains men kissing!
